Biscuit Basin

After black sand basin, we stopped by biscuit basin. This was another one we hasn't stopped by before. This one is different from black sand. The landscape was more barren. In the next post, you will see more pictures of the barren landscape. It did have the river running through it, like the last one. Dad enjoyed watching the fly fishers. We quite enjoyed ourselves, admiring the landscape and features that were unknown to us before. At this point, we were cold from the wind, again we have our hoods on. :-)

Black Sand Basin

Ok, this is a cool basin! We visit Yellowstone yearly and have never made over to black sand basin! Even Dad said that in all his years of going of visiting, even he doesn't remember visiting. It turned out being ready cool! There was a really active geyser there that erupted the whole time. The hot pools have more color here and are easily visible. This basin is very active. Don't mind all the selfies. We got pretty good at taking them while having the feature in the background.  It was cold and the wind was blowing, that's why our hoods may be on. This basin also has a river running through it. It was beautiful! We were close to the mountains too. Look for a later post with some pretty cool black and white photos! Some of which were taken here. (The last picture is one of them.;)

Old Faithful Inn

We stopped at the Old Faithful Inn. This is a really cool historic place! The lodge is made of wood! Trevor enjoyed looking at the exposed wood structure, and I enjoy admiring the history of it.

Razor Fun!

Saturday we spent the day riding Razors. If you don't know what those are, its a hybrid between a car and a 4-wheeler. Super cool! You drive then like a car, they have seat belts, pedal, steering wheel and a cage around it. Pretty safe, as long as you aren't stupid. They are fun to blaze down trails in. The wheels are gigantic.

So ya, we spent the day riding around island park. We went up to Two Top, as far as we could. It was a beautiful trail. To bad it was cold! But we had fun anyway. Trevor and I took turns driving a white 4-seater. It has some power! Mom drove one, as did Dad. Skyler and Savannah took turns driving another. Each year I forget how much I enjoy riding and driving these things. Big thanks to Brad and Dianne for letting us borrow them!!!

Great Fountain Geyser

It has been a few years since we've been privileged to see this geyser erupt. As we were pulling in to the parking lot, it was erupting. We all bailed out of the cars and sprinted across the parking lot to the board walk so we could catch the remainder of its performance. By the time we got there, its large eruption was finished, but we got to see its last few blasts and the sun was setting, which only enhanced its beauty. Great Fountain is truly one of God's greatest creations in Yellowstone.

West Thumb

We stopped at West Thumb. This is another favorite of mine. It's short, sweet, and beautiful! This area is right on the lake. Yellowstone lake is gigantic and the land around the "arms" or "fingers" of the lake is some of the most remote county in the lower 48 states. You stand on the shore, looking out at the vast expanse of water and mountains in the distance and can't help but feel small in comparison...and grateful you are near civilization. :-)
