My Growing Garden!

I know it's been awhile since I updated the blog about my little garden i have growing. I'm pleased to say it's undergone some extensive changes! I now have a pallet garden and everything is out of cans! (well, except for like...two). I've introduced a pallet into my garden (THANKS DAD!). I've transplanted a bunch and I'm pleased to say that they are all doing well.

I've been so impressed at how plants have the ability to rebound after something so life changing for these little plants. Their roots don't leave the cans intact, but they regrow and survive!

My pallet garden. I have quite a bit in there.

Here is my broccoli (top row), and my mustard spinach (bottom row).

My lettuce (on bottom) and lavender (on top)

I'm quite proud of my basil (on bottom) and my jalapenos (on top). I don't know what we're going to do with all the jalapenos.

I purchased a sweet mint plant, because I couldn't find seeds. So that's what the big plant is. Then I have some little spearmint plants next to it.

Both my cilantro and dill had outgrown their cans. They are loving the space in the pallet garden.

My peppers plants. Sorry for the shadow

This is my 3 sisters pot. (Corn, garden beans, and squash). They are all doing quite well!

You can't see how deep this container is, but it's pretty deep. I've planted some beets in here for fun. We'll see what happens!

I gotta say, this has been super fun to grow green onions. We harvest from it a few times a week.

Tomatoes

More tomatoes...

Even more tomatoes...

Theses re cucumber plants.

I purchased this strawberry plant at Smith's. It's quite a lovely, healthy plant. There are strawberries growing on it!

*Sigh* these are my plants I'm trying to figure out what to do with. I have cucumbers, garlic, beans, celery, and corn.

These are my bean plants. I have peas and snap peas growing in here. We'll see what happens. They had all outgrown their little cans.

See! Strawberries!!!

Transplanting Maniac!

Today, I've been transplanting like CRAZY! I moved my 3 cucumbers into their own containers. I moved all my tomatoes into containers, this totaled about 12-13 tomato plants! I have beefsteak and the large red cherry tomatoes, the kind that go on salads. I also got a second strawberry plant. They are just so healthy at Smiths that I can't resist. :) 3 bucks for a plant that will give me a ton of strawberries is worth more then buying strawberries from the store that go mushy after a day.

I also planted the 3 sisters pot. This is what i'm most excited about! It's called the Three Sisters Pot because It has three plants that help each other. It's got corn in it, then garden beans that grow up the corn. The third is squash. It covers the roots of the plants to keep them from burning and preserves the water. How rad is this?! It's suppose to be in a 5 gallon bucket, and that's what I put it in. I'm excited to watch it this summer!

I hope I didn't kill everything when I transplanted things. I'm hoping a few days in the sun will revive a few worrisome cucumber and tomato plants. I've been enjoying my garden. I'm growing a TON of beans. My goal is to have beans running all the way up my balcony railing - all the way across! How cool?! I have 2 types. Garden beans and peas.

I have quite a lot growing. It's really taking off. It's been so fun to experiment. I just keep planting when I get new containers. I hope I'll have enough room for everything once it's all matured!

The Three Sisters Pot

See, I have quite a few larger containers now. :)

I love this. It's been so much fun to watch it all grow. I've enjoyed tending to it and taking care of it. Hopefully it'll all pay off and we'll get a huge crop this season! Can't wait!

My not so little garden.

Well I have 23 different container plants and 24 different plants growing! They are my little friends hahaha. Just planted some lavender, peas, and spinach mustard and chives today! This is awesome. :) I don't know what I'll do once they are large and take up quite a bit more space. I can't wait until they produce fruit/veggies. It'll be so awesome to go "Hm, I need some tomatoes. Let's just go to the back patio and get some!" It's been so fun to experiment with them and see them grow. I love gardening.

Weekend Garden Madness!

Trevor and I headed to Idaho yesterday morning (early...). We left and when we came back, my little plants had taken off even more! I've been having so much fun with them! I'm about ready to transplant some of them. Check it out!

Seeds left to plant, I planted the Oregano tonight.

I came home and this is what they looked like. The corn, squash and garlic were even bigger!

My garden family!

I planted sweet basil before we left. Should be popping up soon.

First time trying to grow broccoli! We'll see what happens.

This cucumber plant is for a container garden. Supposedly it should remain pretty small.

I bought these green onions at the store last week. Look at how they've grown!

These are my beefsteak tomatoes.

I'm so proud of my little squash plants. :) Hopefully I can manage them.

My rosemary is the slowest of all my plants. 2 weeks planted and we just barely saw a little tiny stem.

These are my large red cherry tomatoes. I just planted these this weekend

My green peppers should be sprouting any time!

I need to get these little guys in a pot!

This is my garden bean plant. It's gotten so big! I'm so proud. lol.

If you look in the dirt, you can see a second bean getting ready to sprout. (Next to the little light colored ball)

I'm going to have cilantro that doesn't wilt in 2 days!

This has been so fun. Garlic. When I left, the green stems were quite small. They are HUGE now!

The newest member of the container garden family. Oregano! Should be a while before we see anything.
I love experimenting with my container garden. I'm excited to see what it turns into this summer!

Green Onions - PLANTED!

So, I picked up some green onions on Monday to use this week. Well, there are a few different things that can regrow from your kitchen scraps, garlic, which I already have growing, and green onions - which I just planted! (There are others like celery, but I'm not a fan of celery, maybe some day though!)

My green onions had a huge base and the roots seemed pretty intact. I cut them just around the end of the white part, last night. This morning, I went and looked at them, and they had already begun growing before I planted them! So, this mid-morning, I planted them and can't wait to watch them grow! I LOVE green onions!

See how they've started to grow already?! The one in the top right is the best visual.

It's an experiment. :)

Cute Pots and Plates!

So, I did a little searching for some pots that I can use, because someday soon, these little plants will be too big for their little cans. I wanted some containers with character. I don't want my little garden to be drab. So, I thought DI might be the place to check. I was right. I found some really cute pots that I think have some character.

I found this cute Young Women watering pail and I couldn't pass it up. It made me smile. Plus, it was like $1.

I like the pot on the left. I think it has character. My other 4 pots were cheap and they are large enough to house most of the plants once they are bigger.

Hahaha, I saw this and couldn't pass it up. It was cheap, cute and has some character. Can't wait to put something good in it!

I saw these and had to have them. There is drainage at the bottom. These remind me of home. I think I'll put something tall in it. Like some tall grass-like plant. Don't know yet. Maybe just some corn! :)

Earlier this week, I also found some really cute plates. They are a little beat up, but have some awesome character. They were out by our dumpster and nobody had claimed them all day, so finally I picked them up. I don't know quite what I'll do with them yet, but I know they'll add character somewhere in my little garden!

This weekend I'm going up to Idaho and I'm going to go see what their DI has. I love the cheap prices. I paid $13 and got 10 items! WOOT!

Continual Growth!

I have been enjoying my little container garden! It's fun to see the HUGE progress of my little plants. They are like babies. They grow VERY fast when they are young. I've noticed a height difference in my corn in a matter of about 6 hours!

My tomatoes have sprouted and so have my green beans! (Only one bean plant so far). I'm just waiting on my green peppers (which I just recently planted), my cilantro and rosemary.

Look at how big it's gotten! I can't wait to have corn to eat this summer. This is probably my favorite plant. :-)

My yellow squash. I'm so excited for these little guys. I hope I can find room for them once they are big!

These are my tomato plants. Even since this picture all four plants have perked up to the sun!

EEK! My garden bean has sprouted. I've removed a bit of dirt to see what's underneath and it looks like a mutant something. (But then I put the dirt back on top. hehehe.
I've really been enjoying my garden. It's fun to think of things I can do to help it grow, add more variety and finding pots. I look forward to taking my little plants out into the sun (because I bring them in at night), and then coming home each day and seeing how they've grown!
